last weekend, me, mede and ngek set a our new ‘to do list’ this year; to search and taste all exotic food in Perak (as mede describes it lor..ahaha). why exotic? sounds so freaks and crazy huh! no la, its not like what are you thinking. we are not hunting for snakes, tupai or tenggiling as others describe exotic but something better than that.
the exoticsm that we mean here is the best food we can found around us here in perak. top on the list is “Mee Hailam Parit“. to tell about the greatness of this mee hailam, my late grandfather (which live in bota) was one of the top fans of this mee. continued by my father, a double great fan of this mee. and maybe tripled by me ahaha. this mee has its own die hard fan, ranging from all over malaysia to singapore. you can see during hari raya or chineese new year, poeples who came back to thier kampung will gather at this mee stall. same goes to my father, never miss a single year going balik kampung without having this mee.
mee hailam parit as per say, is one of the best mee you can found in whole ipoh, perhaps the best in perak. founded since my father was a small child (thats what he told me), this mee was sold by a chineese family in small town of parit. i still remember, my father brought me to this mee stall every time we went back to my grandpa’s home since i was schooled. to date, it was the third generation of the family who sold the mee. nevertheless, the taste of the mee remains unchanged.
ok enough with the history lecture. our first attempt to get the mee on friday 14|03, mede, me and ngek. we arrived at parit around 6. i stopped at theplace where the stall was, but suprisingly, that small wooden, on perak river bank stall was nowhere to be found. i phone my uncle, and he told us the mee stall was moved to a new food court. relieved us, we went to the stall. maybe its not our fate that day to have the mee. the stall was nearly close and the auntie told us to come another day. they close at 530. hopeless, we went to satay bota (i’ll write about it later)
second attempt. saturday 15|03 lunch time. me ngek and mawi (mede was nowhere to be found so we left him haha). 30 minutes driving and we were at the destination. first glance, i saw the menu on the wall;
mee hailam, mee tambah, mee bungkus
3 menus only? no no no..not 3 menus, but 3 options of serving, with only one option of menu, the ultimate mee hailam. we laugh ourself, “ade gak ek kedai cmni?”. yea as you can guess, this stall only sells mee hailam, with no other options of food, but the stall was full of crowd. that’s the speciality of the stall. they doesn’t have to make varieties of food yet people still addicted over their mee. we’ve ordered 3 plates of mee tambah, plus teh o ais and milo ais.
several minutes later, they sent us a bottle of vinegar, kicap, cili and tooth pick, along with 3 spoon-forks in a cup of hot water (so special i think). 15 minutes, mee’s on the table. its makan time. the mee was soo delicious, pekat, sedap, melekat, and the meat flavor was soo into the mee. its quite pedas but the pedasness is the strength of the mee. yeye i am the champion!! haha i finished it the fastest. ngek was bath in his sweats. we enjoy the mee so much as we slurp it in our lips. here are some of the pictures during the mee hailam parit hunt.
